Last year on Itajime.....

Here we are in San Francisco preparing to return to Raiatea where Itajime is currently located. Our flights are booked and Kate, Ben and I will be flying back to Raiatea on August 13 to continue sailing. Raiatea, is located in the Society Islands of French Polynesia.Last spring, Kate, Ben and I along with our crew sailed Itajime from San Jose del Cabo Mexico to French Polynesia. Our first landfall was in Nuka Hiva in the Marquesan Islands. It was a 3,000 mile passage which took us a very speedy 19 days. 

 

Here are some pictures and memories from that passage. In Mexico, we went over every sail and system on Itajime to make sure everything was in tip top shape. Here we are making repairs to our jib.

We provisioned with lots of food. Enough for many weeks at sea.

And then we cast off on our epic 3,000 mile voyage across the equator to the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
